R lapply dataframes with same name pattern

Question

I want to create a list of dataframes with same name pattern.

dataframes: dF1, dF2, dF3, ... (don't know how many I would get)

How can I create a list of dataframes that start with dF? Especially, without having to find the total number of dataframes starting with dF.

All the dataframes are on loaded on the Data table in R and have data inside. I want to create a list of those dataframes, which have data inside. — stackbeats, Jul 12 '17 at 20:15

Assuming that all your data.frames are in your global environment you can use mget:

#example data sets
#we only want to have dF1 and dF2 in the list
dF1 <- mtcars
dF2 <- mtcars
pd3 <- mtcars

#ls(globalenv()) will return a character vector of all the objects
#filtered by a pattern
mget(ls(globalenv(), pattern = '^dF'))

Output:

mget(ls(globalenv(), pattern = '^dF'))

You can also use the `pattern` argument to avoid subsetting with `grep`. See my answer to [this post](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/17499013/how-do-i-make-a-list-of-data-frames) for an example. — lmo, Jul 13 '17 at 02:39
